This is not a kit or a detail set but a decal sheet with a wood texture. It carries the grain of light plywood in 1:32 scale and serves to make a surface of a model look like veneered wood. Painting wood grain by hand in oils is slow and the result tends to be uneven; a decal texture gives a uniform, restrained pattern in scale across the whole surface. The variant marked regular in the name is the basic, even rendering of the grain; the range also includes a shaded variant, in which shading is worked into the grain.
Wooden surfaces are typical above all of aircraft of wooden construction, that is of machines of the First World War period and of interwar and sporting types: fuselage skins, floors, instrument panels, interior cabin lining or propellers. It also has uses beyond aircraft, anywhere a wooden surface is called for and a painted grain would be hard to repeat in the same form.
The texture is applied over a smooth, perfectly even and glossy surface. Choose a light base shade, because it contributes to the final impression. Cut the sheet to the shape of the part, soak it in lukewarm water and let it stand until the backing starts to slide. Transfer the decal into place, soak up the water and settle the film into the detail with a softener. Once thoroughly dry, the look can be fine-tuned with a thin filter or a glaze and finally sealed with a matte or semi-gloss varnish, depending on how glossy the varnished wood is meant to be.
