An unassembled plastic kit of the M1001 heavy tractor with the M790 trailer carrying an erector launcher, in 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The M1001 was a heavy tractor with drive to all eight wheels, used by the US Army with the Pershing II missile system. Paired with the M790 trailer it formed the launch combination: the trailer carried the missile as well as the erector, which stood it up into the vertical position before launch. The whole combination could move on the road and off it and operate from prepared as well as improvised positions.
The combination served in the 1980s with units stationed in Europe and disappeared from service at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s. The model therefore captures equipment of the final phase of the Cold War, which appears among kits only rarely.
The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The combination has two separate units, the tractor and the trailer, so build them separately and join them only at the end. Paint the erector of the trailer before you fold it down into the transport position, otherwise places will be left out of reach. Fit the wheels at the end and watch that the combination stands level on all its axles. Wash and degrease the model before painting, and the thinner and the thinning ratio follow the instructions of the paint manufacturer on the packaging.
The set suits modelers interested in Cold War equipment in 1:35 scale and builders of large dioramas. The finished model is long and needs room in a display case. Paints, glue, filler and figures are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
