A mask for the landing gear bays of a model of the Messerschmitt Bf 109E in 1:72 scale, shaped for the Wingsy Kits kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
On a model of a fighter the landing gear bay tends to be one of the first places to be finished, and immediately afterwards there is a risk of it being clogged with paint while the fuselage and the wings are sprayed. A mask closes it off for that time: it is stuck over the opening before spraying, so neither paint nor varnish gets inside. That does away with stuffing the bay with cotton wool or paper, which comes loose every time the model is moved and leaves fibers behind.
The masks are cut to the shape of the landing gear bays of a model of the Bf 109E in 1:72 scale and, according to the name, are shaped for the kit from the brand Wingsy Kits. On a kit from a different brand the shape of the bay differs, so the mask need not line up.
Stick the mask on only once the surface is finished and dry, and always before spraying rather than after. Press the edges down carefully, especially in the corners, because that is exactly where paint creeps under. Spray thin coats and hold the nozzle more at right angles than obliquely, so that the stream of paint does not lift the edge of the mask. Lift the mask while the paint is still tacky, not after it has fully cured; it is peeled off slowly and obliquely back over itself, not straight up. If a slight transition is left after removal, it can be evened out with a light polish or a touch-in with a brush.
The set suits anyone who sprays a model with an airbrush and wants a clean landing gear bay without laborious stuffing. The kit, paints and varnish are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
