A set of kabuki tape masks for the model of the heavy turboprop transport aircraft Antonov An-22 in 1:144 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Antonov An-22 is a heavy transport aircraft with turboprop power, as the name of the set also indicates. It is a giant with a high-mounted wing, a massive cargo fuselage and twin vertical tail surfaces; its propeller blades turn in contra-rotating pairs, so the machine has an unmistakable silhouette even on the ground. In 1:144 scale the model stays a sensible size while keeping all the glazing that has to be covered for painting.
Masks made from kabuki tape for the An-22 model in 1:144 scale. Kabuki tape holds on the surface reliably and can still be lifted without the risk of pulling off paint or leaving adhesive behind. The manufacturer's instructions state the extent of the masks, that is which areas the set covers; go through them before you build the model, so that you know at which stage to fit the masks.
The masks are applied before spraying, to a clean and degreased surface. Lay them down with tweezers and press from the center out to the edges so that paint cannot creep under the edge. Apply the paint in thin coats; a heavy coat will build a ridge at the edge. Lift the mask as soon as the paint has flashed off, straight up, and preferably with the tip of a toothpick rather than a fingernail.
For anyone who does not enjoy cutting glazing covers from tape by hand, and above all for small windows in a small scale, where a hand-cut edge rarely comes out straight. The aircraft kit, the paints and the glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
