About product

Engine nozzles for the AV-8B and the Harrier GR.7 in 1:144 scale (Brengun)

This is a supplementary resin set, not an aircraft model. It contains castings of the exhaust nozzles of the power plant for the vertical-landing aircraft of the second-generation Harrier family in 1:144 scale. The set is meant to replace the parts of the base plastic model, which in this small scale are usually simplified and have walls that are too thick. Resin makes it possible to cast a thin rim as well as the inner profile of a nozzle, and that is precisely what you notice first on a finished model.

The real subject

The AV-8B Harrier II and the British Harrier GR.7 are combat aircraft with a short take-off and a vertical landing. The thrust comes from a single Rolls-Royce Pegasus jet engine, whose unique solution lies in a set of four rotating nozzles on the sides of the fuselage. The two front ones carry cold air from the fan, the two rear ones the hot exhaust. By turning the nozzles downward the aircraft hangs in the air; by turning them to the rear it flies forward. These nozzles are the most pronounced recognition feature of the whole Harrier family, and their shape and setting fundamentally determine how a model comes across.

Usage tips

First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water; that removes mold release residue from the mold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, do not break them off. It is glued with cyanoacrylate, as plastic cement has no effect on resin. When sanding, work wet and protect your airways. Use a primer before painting; without it resin holds paint less well. The nozzles tend to be heat-stained, and metallic shades with a fine hint of blue or brown will bring even a model of this size to life.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building aircraft of the Harrier family in 1:144 scale
  • Those who want to replace coarse plastic parts with more accurate resin
  • Builders of models in poses with the nozzles turned down and in hovering flight
  • Collectors of small scales who take care of detail even on small models

This is a supplementary set, not a complete kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. It is a supplementary resin set meant to improve a plastic model you have already bought. You will not find the aircraft itself in the package.

Cyanoacrylate-based glue. Ordinary cement for plastic models does not dissolve resin, so the joint does not hold.

Yes. Wash them in lukewarm soapy water because of mold release residue and apply a primer coat. Without that, paint holds badly on resin.

The name states both the AV-8B and the British GR.7 version. Before buying, compare the shape of the parts with your particular model.
