About product

A photo-etched set for the AV-8B Harrier II Plus in 1:144 scale

An accessory set from the Czech maker Brengun, etched from thin metal sheet and cut for one particular kit, the Revell one. It is not an airplane model; there is no plastic and no decal sheet in the box. The point of photo-etched parts lies in the thickness of the material: metal sheet manages details such as seat belts, the instrument panel, fine grilles, flaps and vanes that in injected plastic would only be suggested by engraving in this scale.

The real subject

The AV-8B Harrier II is an American light attack aircraft with vertical take-off and landing capability, derived from the British concept with a vectored thrust nozzle. Compared with the first generation it received a new composite wing and a revised air intake. The version designated Plus brought a radar in the nose, which widened the machine's options in poor visibility and against airborne targets. The aircraft was designed to operate from ships and from improvised sites close to the front line.

Building and painting tips

Cut the photo-etched parts off with a scalpel on a hard surface; breaking them out will warp them. Make the bends in a bending tool or between two razor blades, always in one movement, because repeated bending and straightening fatigues the metal and breaks it. If a piece insists on its shape, anneal it briefly over a flame and it will be softer once it cools. Degrease the metal surface with alcohol before painting and prime it, otherwise the paint will peel off at the first handling. Dispense super glue from a drop on a tile with a pin, never straight from the tube.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the AV-8B Harrier II Plus in 1:144 scale
  • Builders who want a readable cockpit and fine surface detail in a small scale
  • Experienced modelers who have bent photo-etched parts before
  • Collectors of modern combat aircraft in small scales

The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. These are photo-etched metal parts that are added to the Revell kit.

Working with photo-etched parts in 1:144 scale calls for tweezers, a scalpel and a steady hand. Without experience of small parts it is demanding.

Bend it in one movement in a bending tool or between razor blades. Repeated straightening fatigues the metal and the part cracks.

The exact breakdown is given on the packaging of the set.
