An injection-molded plastic kit of the American strategic bomber Rockwell B-1B Lancer in 1:144 scale from Academy. It is a modern tooling with finely engraved detail; the wings can be assembled at adjustable angles (variable geometry) and the landing gear and the bomb bays can be chosen open or closed. The box holds decals and a masking template for the cockpit glazing. The 1:144 scale makes even an aircraft this large into a compact model.
The B-1B Lancer is an American four-engine supersonic strategic bomber with a variable-geometry wing. By sweeping the wings back it reaches high speeds, and by spreading them it gains good takeoff and landing qualities. It was originally created as a weapons carrier for penetration at low altitude, later moved to conventional armament and became the backbone of the strike air forces with a large bomb load. Its characteristic features are the smooth aerodynamic shapes and the four engines in nacelles under the fuselage.
Given the small scale, take care to clean up the parting lines and the gaps — the large smooth surfaces of the fuselage give away every unevenness, so it pays to fill them and sand them over. Paint the cockpit and close it up before gluing the fuselage together, and mask the glazing with the template supplied. Consider whether to leave the wings movable or fix them in one position. An airbrush and a uniform metallic gray finish are ideal; fit the external stores and the landing gear only at the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
