About product

1:144 Bachem Ba-349 Natter photo-etched set

An aftermarket accessory from Brengun intended for the Brengun kit. It is not a kit or a finished model. The set is etched from thin sheet whose thickness is incomparably closer to reality in 1:144 scale than injected plastic. What is typically handled this way are features that on the real machine are made of sheet metal or wire and in plastic would have to be several times oversize.

The real subject

The Bachem Ba-349 Natter was a German single-seat rocket-powered interceptor from the end of the Second World War, launched vertically from a guide tower. The airframe was largely of wooden construction and power came from a liquid-fuel rocket motor supplemented by booster rockets. The machine was very small, which in 1:144 scale means a model a few centimeters long, and that is exactly why every needlessly thick part stands out on it.

Tips for working it

Before you start building, set up your workplace: a light surface, fine tweezers, a sharp scalpel, a magnifier. Cut the parts off as close to the fret as you can and level the remaining stub with a fine file, stroking away from the part. Degrease the photo-etched parts with alcohol before gluing, as fingerprints hold grease and the paint then will not sit. Make the bends in a bending tool; on small parts it helps to press a razor blade against the part and bend it with a second pair of tweezers. It is bonded with super glue in minute drops. A primer is mandatory on photo-etched parts, and only over it does the covering shade belong.

Who the set is for

  • modelers who already have the matching kit
  • collectors of unusual designs in 1:144 scale
  • experienced builders used to small photo-etched parts
  • those who display a model close up in a cabinet

This is an accessory set for a model, not a kit. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.

FAQ

No. This is purely a photo-etched accessory; you need to have the kit separately.

The Brengun kit. With another mold you have to reckon on modifications.

Smooth degreased metal will not hold paint. A primer creates a layer that the covering paint holds on.

Not really. The parts in 1:144 scale are very small and call for tweezers, a magnifier and a steady hand.
