A resin set of underwing armament in 1:144 scale from Rise144models. It contains four pieces of the French BLG-66 Belouga cluster bomb. It is not a kit of an aircraft: it is an accessory with which a finished model is armed.
The Belouga is a French cluster bomb, that is, a dispenser that opens after release and scatters a large number of small submunitions over an area target. It was used on French combat aircraft against unprotected concentrations of vehicles and against airfield surfaces. It is characteristic for its smooth cylindrical body with a braking device at the rear, which slows the bomb after release so that the carrying aircraft has time to get clear of its own effect. It is precisely this profile that makes the Belouga easy to recognize on a model, and four pieces in one set match the way it was actually hung, several at a time on underwing stations.
Four identical parts mean the same care four times over. Cut each piece from the casting block by drawing a sharp blade and keep sanding to a minimum, or the suggestion of the braking device at the rear will be lost. It pays to make a simple jig, a piece of hard polystyrene with drilled dimples into which the bombs are stood and held for painting, so that all four are painted at once and alike. After washing off the mold release agent and drying comes a thin primer. They are bonded with super glue applied with the tip of a wire to the contact face of the station. In color, cluster munitions tend to be in a base shade with thin colored bands near the head: paint them in at the end with a thin brush, as in 1:144 a single stroke is enough.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The model of the aircraft, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
