An aftermarket set of photo-etched metal parts for refining the external details of a plastic model of the Lockheed JetStar aircraft in the VC-140B version in 1:144 scale. The package contains only the add-on parts, not the model itself, the paints or the glue. The set is intended for the Roden kit.
The Lockheed JetStar was among the first jet aircraft designed to carry a small number of passengers. Its distinguishing marks are the four engines placed in pairs at the rear of the fuselage and the auxiliary fuel tanks on the wing. In service with the US Air Force it carried the designation C-140, and the versions modified to carry state officials and senior officers were listed as the VC-140B.
In 1:144 scale thin sheet-metal elements made of injection-molded plastic always come out thicker than reality calls for. Photo-etched metal a few tenths of a millimeter thick replaces them at a realistic thickness and adds fine external details to the airframe. Once completed, the model looks cleaner and stands up better to a close look and to a photograph.
Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface and handle them with tweezers. Make the bends in a photo-etch bending tool or between blades. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied in a minimum, ideally with the tip of a wire. Degrease the metal before painting and apply a base for metal surfaces. If you are finishing the model in a metallic shade, remember that metallic paints call for a smooth base and are applied last, because they are difficult to overspray and mask.
The set is an accessory for a model, not a standalone kit. The base Roden kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
