An accessory for modelers who want to replace the plastic engine tailpipe on their F-16 in 1:144 scale with a more finely made part. The set by Rise144models is cut for the F-16 model by Trumpeter and captures the shape of the nozzle of the Pratt and Whitney engine. It is supplied on its own as an accessory to a model already bought.
The Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon was delivered with two different powerplants throughout its production. A numerous part of the fleet carries a Pratt and Whitney engine of the F100 series, while other blocks carry a General Electric of the F110 series. On the real aircraft and on a model alike the difference is most apparent precisely at the rear: the two nozzles have a different build of the outer petals, a different number of segments and a different shape to the rear rim. Modelers commonly tell a particular block of the aircraft apart by them, and that is why the wrong engine fit shows at first glance. This set matches the Pratt and Whitney form.
Wash the part before gluing in lukewarm water with detergent, so that the remains of the mold release agent come off. Cut the casting block away with a fine saw or a knife and level the surface with sandpaper; when sanding, work with your airways protected, as resin dust is not to be inhaled. Make the joint with the fuselage using cyanoacrylate glue, which holds reliably on this material. The inside of the nozzle looks best once a metallic shade has been sprayed on and then toned toward dark, while the outer petals take fine traces of heat discoloration and a light patina of soot. In 1:144 scale the part is small, so it pays to paint it before fitting it to the fuselage.
