AML Fieseler Fi-103A-1 Re IV Reichenberg with transport trailer - the piloted version of the V-1 missile with a transport trailer in 1:144 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The third of AML's miniature subjects on the theme of the Fi 103 missile presents its most chilling form: the piloted Reichenberg version. The 1:144 model is accompanied by a transport trailer, so a compact scene from a test establishment can be built.
The Reichenberg IV came about at the end of the war as a desperate attempt to improve the accuracy of the strikes. A cramped cockpit was built into the body of the missile ahead of the pulsejet intake; the pilot was to guide the weapon onto the target and bail out at the last moment, but the real chance of survival was negligible. Test pilots took part in the flight testing, among them the famous Hanna Reitsch, yet combat use never came about and the program remained a dark curiosity of German development.
The cockpit is the characteristic feature - careful painting of the area around it and a clean canopy turn a small model into a compelling exhibit. The trailer takes well to weathering with dust pigments, so that the scene looks convincing. The whole thing takes up only a few centimeters on a shelf.
The model is packed as a kit to be assembled and painted; neither glue nor paints are enclosed.
Stand the unmanned missile and the piloted version of the Fi 103 side by side and the difference between the two bodies stands out at first glance, while the whole story of the weapon fits into an area the size of a palm.
