The Sea Gladiator is interesting for a modeler precisely in the ways it differs from the land version, and in a small scale those details can be handled quickly without the build taking weeks. The maker specializes in 1:144 scale, so the molds are matched to what can realistically be cast at this size.
The Sea Gladiator came about by adapting the land fighter for service with naval aviation. It received an arrestor hook for landing on a deck, catapult attachment points and a container for a dinghy mounted under the fuselage between the landing gear legs, and it is that container which is the most conspicuous external difference. The rest of the design stayed the same as on the land version: the biplane layout, an enclosed cockpit and a radial engine. Machines of this type were committed in the Mediterranean among other places, where they operated from land bases and from decks alike.
First check dry how the container under the fuselage and the landing gear legs fit; at this scale a small deviation is enough for the model to stand crooked. Glue the struts between the wings one at a time and check that they are square against the surface. Apply the paint in thin coats so that the engraving stays legible. Keep the transition between the upper camouflage and the lower shade soft but with a small overlap, otherwise it is lost in a small scale. Apply the decals over gloss varnish and finally even the surface out with matte.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
