A resin accessory set for models of the first-generation Harrier in 1:144 scale from Mark I. According to the name it combines two roles: detailing parts for refining the build and underwing armament. It is not a kit of the aircraft — without a base model you cannot use it. The particular make-up of the parts and their number are stated on the box.
The Harrier was the first production combat aircraft with vertical and short takeoff to reach regular service. What made that possible was an engine with vectoring nozzles: the pilot controls the transition between hovering and forward flight by swiveling the nozzles. The GR.1 and GR.3 versions served with the Royal Air Force (RAF) and differed mainly in equipment and in the performance of the powerplant, while the AV-8A and AV-8C were of the United States Marine Corps; the AV-8C guise came about by upgrading earlier machines. The type was designed for operation from improvised sites away from conventional airfields.
Wash the resin parts first in lukewarm soapy water — there tends to be mold release residue on the surface, under which neither glue nor paint will hold. Do not snap the casting blocks off: cut them away with a saw or a separate cut and sand the remainder down, ideally wet and with respiratory protection, because resin dust should not be breathed in. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); for small parts a drop applied with a toothpick is enough, and the joint can be speeded up with an accelerator. Before painting we recommend a primer — resin is smooth and paint holds on it less well on its own. Always try the mating surfaces dry and make up any differences against the plastic by sanding, not by force.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
