About product

Model of the Czechoslovak fortification K-S 22a Krok 1:144 (ROP o.s.)

A kit of a model of the Czechoslovak heavy fortification K-S 22a Krok in 1:144 scale from the small manufacturer ROP o.s. It is a faithful model of a massive reinforced concrete blockhouse from the line of Czechoslovak border fortification built between 1935 and 1938. The model captures the characteristic mass of the structure with its fighting walls, embrasures and broken-up concrete surface. Because it comes from a small manufacturer, it is a collector item and a less usual model meant rather for more experienced builders.

The real subject

The K-S 22a Krok fortification is part of the heavy fortification in the Kraliky sector, one of the most heavily fortified areas of prewar Czechoslovakia. The letter in the designation refers to the construction command sector, and the structure belongs to the system of the massive Bouda artillery fort. Unlike the small light bunkers known as Ropiks, this is a heavy reinforced concrete structure with exceptionally thick walls, meant to withstand an attack on its own and for a long time. These fortifications were among the strongest in Europe at the time, but because of the Munich Agreement of 1938 no fighting took place there in the end.

Building and painting tips

Clean any casting remnants off the parts and test-fit them dry before gluing. Glue the model with a cement suited to the material used and fill the seams for the impression of unbroken concrete. The basis of a convincing look is a primer and a gray concrete base coat, over which layered finishes, a dry brush on the edges and a fine patina bringing out traces of age and damage all come out well. Setting it into a simple diorama with terrain strengthens the impression.

Who the model is for

  • For anyone interested in Czechoslovak border fortification and military history.
  • For collectors of less usual models of fortification architecture.
  • For modelers who like working with concrete textures and patina.
  • For more experienced builders interested in small-production models.

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
