A photo-etched detail set for the Ki-44 Shoki model in 1:144 scale is an accessory to a kit you have already bought, not an airplane model. It replaces features on the model that injected plastic cannot make thin enough.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory from the Czech maker Brengun for a model of the Japanese Ki-44 fighter, which carried the Allied code name Tojo. The box holds no model but photo-etched metal parts intended for the Fujimi kit. The set belongs to the smallest common aviation scale, so even a small improvement shows in the result.
Etched sheet comes from the factory with a thin film left over from the etching bath and from handling. Paint holds on it poorly and peels off at the first touch of the tweezers. The remedy is simple and nobody should skip it: while the parts are still in the fret, wash them in warm soapy water, rinse them, let them dry and wipe them with alcohol. Only then comes the primer, ideally a thin coat from an airbrush or from a spray can at a distance, so that the fine engraving is not flooded. Painting goes only onto primed metal.
Cut the parts off with a scalpel on a hard surface and level the burr left after cutting with a small file or a sanding sponge. Bend along the etched thinning lines, and for sharp corners a brief anneal over a flame helps. Bond with super glue in minute drops; the gel version gives you more time to align a part. If a photo-etched part replaces a molded detail, cut the original away first and sand the area smooth, otherwise the new component will not sit properly.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
