This is a decal set in 1:144 scale for a model of the twin-engined Lisunov Li-2 transport aircraft in the markings used in postwar Poland. It is not a kit or a part but an accessory for finishing a model off. How many marking options the sheet holds and which particular machines it covers should be checked against the illustration on the packaging.
The Li-2 is a twin-engined low-wing aircraft with a fixed tailwheel, built in the Soviet Union as a license-built counterpart of the American transport of the 1930s and differing from it in a number of structural changes and in its engines. In Central Europe it was among the widespread transport types after the Second World War and was used to carry both people and cargo. For a modeler it is interesting above all as an addition to a collection of civil and transport machines of the postwar period.
The basis is a glossy surface: overcoat the painted model with a gloss clear varnish, otherwise air will be trapped under the decal and a silvered edge will appear around the motif. On the glossy bare-metal finishes that transport aircraft tend to have, that shows especially clearly. Cut the motif out closely, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and leave it to stand until it begins to slide freely. Once it is transferred, blot the surplus water away and use a decal softener, so the motif beds down over the riveting and the engraved lines. Choose the final varnish to suit the finish: on a glossy fuselage a gloss or semi-gloss one is enough, on matte camouflage a matte one.
