A kit of the Messerschmitt Bf 109E fighter in 1:144 scale, Set No. 3 from Armory. Another in the series of sets of the same subject.
Responsibility details are not available.
The item is part of a series of kits of the same subject, which the manufacturer distinguishes by set number; this is set number three. The 1:144 scale is the domain of collectors who want an overview: the models take up little room, they go together fairly quickly, and side by side in a cabinet it stands out nicely how the individual types and versions differed in shape. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Messerschmitt Bf 109 in the E version was a single-seat fighter of all-metal construction with a liquid-cooled engine, retractable landing gear and an enclosed cockpit. Its squared wing tips and a canopy made up of flat panels are characteristic of it. The small airframe kept the weight low, but the narrow landing gear track and the limited forward view while taxiing were among its weaknesses. The E version was in service at the start of the Second World War.
Small models forgive less than it seems. It pays to start dry: put the fuselage halves and the wing together without glue and check where a gap will appear. Fill with a thin filler and sand with fine paper, working wet, so that the engraved lines are preserved. You can mask the cockpit with narrow strips of cut masking tape or with liquid mask. To divide the camouflage scheme on the spine and the sides, use a thin roll of putty or masking raised above the surface, as a hard transition looks coarse in this scale.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
