Metal barrels from the Master Model brand for a model of the Northrop F-5 Tiger II in 1:144 scale. They replace the plastic parts of the kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Northrop F-5 Tiger II is a light supersonic fighter aircraft that followed on from the older F-5 family. The small machine with simple maintenance and low running costs spread to dozens of countries, where it served in fighter and attack duties and in training as well. A number of air forces later deployed it in the role of an adversary in air combat practice. The armament of the single-seat version consisted of two 20 mm cannon in the nose.
The metal barrels replace the corresponding plastic parts of the kit. In 1:144 scale a model of the aircraft measures around ten centimeters and at that size the plastic part tends to be only a short pin, into which a hole practically cannot be drilled. A metal barrel has a thin wall, stays straight and will neither bend nor snap off when the finished model is handled.
Cut the plastic part off and sand the area, drill a hole of the matching diameter into the seat and glue the metal part in with cyanoacrylate glue. Wash and degrease the metal before painting and use a base color, otherwise the shade will rub off during handling. Try the seating dry and line the barrel up on the axis while the glue has not yet set.
For modelers who build the F-5 in a small scale and want to replace the most fragile part of the armament with metal. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
