Markings for four Thunderbolts with a bubble canopy, as used by the fighter groups of the tactical air forces over Western Europe. Decals in 1:144 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Republic P-47 was among the heaviest single-engine fighters of the war, and its original spine hid the pilot's view to the rear. The later form received a rounded frameless transparent canopy and a lowered spine, so the crew could at last look behind. At the same time came more powerful propulsion and strengthened pylons under the wings, thanks to which the fighter became above all an attack aircraft. The four schemes of markings on this sheet belong to exactly such machines.
The supplier assigns the named aircraft to units of the tactical air forces which from 1944 worked low over the ground: they destroyed trains, bridges, columns and gun positions. On their fuselages they carried prominent squadron letter codes and personal names, often two at once separated by a slash, which makes an interesting subject on a model.
We lay the large squadron letters first, because they set out the layout of the whole side of the fuselage. The backing is cut close to the print, the model has to be glossy and the decal is slid into place with a damp brush. White invasion stripes, if the machine being built carried them, are sprayed beforehand and the decal is laid over them. Finally, give the model a clear coat so that the edges of the film disappear.
A printed sheet is supplied, not a kit. Paints, thinner and clear coat do not come with it, and you choose the machine according to which of the four schemes appeals to you most. A suitable kit should have a lowered fuselage spine, otherwise the schemes will not sit in the right places and the squadron letters will end up too high.
