This item is not a model of the aircraft but an accessory for one: resin external pylons and adapters for hanging guided missiles on a model of the F-35A Lightning II in 1:48 scale. The castings have sharp edges and clean leading faces, which tells far more on slender pylons than on bulky parts. The set gives a model a different face from the clean configuration with the weapons in the internal bays.
The F-35A is the single-seat version with conventional takeoff and landing, that is the variant for land bases. In its basic form it carries its armament inside the fuselage in order to keep a low radar signature. When low observability is not needed, external pylons under the wings are used and the capacity of the stores carried rises markedly. It is precisely this configuration that the set makes it possible to build on a model.
First wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent so that no release agent stays on the surface. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw, true the contact surfaces up and try everything dry on the wing first — a pylon has to sit square and in line with the direction of flight, or a crooked seating shows at once on a finished model. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Painting is more practical separately: the stores on their own, the airframe on its own, and join them only at the end. With the gray shades of the F-35, a fine shading of the panels helps, because a uniform surface comes across as flat.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The kit, paints, glue and the missiles themselves are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
