Early version wing airbrakes for the Sukhoi Su-25 in 1:48 scale are a Quickboost resin accessory. They make it possible to render the brakes at the wingtips in the open position.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a kit of the aircraft but an accessory for one: resin airbrakes set at the wingtips of a model of the Sukhoi Su-25 attack aircraft in 1:48 scale. The name specifies that this is the form matching the early version of the machine — on the Su-25 the shape of the tip pods with the brakes and the light changed over the course of production, so this detail tells the individual forms apart. The castings have thin walls, which is hard to achieve in injection-molded plastic.
The Su-25 is a single-seat subsonic attack aircraft meant to support ground troops, Frogfoot in the NATO code. Its airbrakes sit at the wingtips and open out to the sides, so on a model with them open they form a striking identifying feature of the silhouette. That is precisely why open brakes are often modeled — the aircraft then comes across as livelier than in the clean flight configuration.
Before gluing, wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent; that gets rid of the remains of the release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and true the surfaces up; with thin walls, go carefully and rather in small steps. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint the inside of the brake surfaces before gluing them in — once they are on, a brush will no longer reach in there. At the end a fine wash helps, bringing out the edges and the inner recesses.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
