This kit from Das Werk captures the LARC-V amphibious wheeled vehicle in its early version. It is an unusual subject that turns up only rarely on the modeling market: most military vehicle collections are built from tanks and trucks, whereas an amphibious boat on wheels looks different from anything around it, whether in a display case or on a diorama. The 1:35 scale is the standard for ground vehicles, so the model will fit in among other vehicles and figures of the same format.
The LARC-V is an American amphibious supply vehicle with four wheels and a buoyant box body, used to move cargo between a ship and an unimproved shore where there is no harbor. The design is therefore subordinated to swimming: a tall tub-shaped body, a high-set cab and a large cargo space. The name gives the users as the Bundeswehr, Portugal, the US Navy and the US Army. The large smooth expanse of the body is the main theme of the whole build. Sand the parting lines down carefully and polish the surface, because every trace shows on an unbroken expanse.
