1:16 German 105mm K18 Cannon is a large plastic kit of the German heavy 105 mm gun from the brand I Love Kit, meant for modelers who want artillery in a large scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the heavy towed K18 gun in the unusually large scale of 1:16. The size is exactly the main argument of this build: in 1:16 the breech, the elevating and traversing gear, the recoil system and the structure of the carriage can be worked up to a degree for which there is no room in 1:35. The model stands in a display case as a striking object in its own right and works just as well as the center of a larger diorama with figures and ammunition in the same scale.
The K18 was among the German heavy artillery pieces of the Second World War. It was a towed system on a split-trail carriage with a long barrel; for movement it was folded up, and in the firing position it rested on the opened trails and a firing platform. The long barrel and the massive carriage are the typical features that the model carries over into plastic.
A large scale forgives fewer inaccuracies, so it pays to build in sub-assemblies: the barrel with its cradle separately, the carriage separately and the wheels and axle separately. Sand and polish the seams on the barrel, so that they are not visible once sprayed. Keep the carriage and the wheels painted separately and join them only after the basic patina; you can then reach places with a brush and an airbrush that would otherwise stay in shadow. Lay the base coat over a primer, then lighten the upper faces gently and bring out the edges. The running parts and the underside of the carriage take dust pigments and a dry brush, while the barrel suits rather a dark wash and a fine graphite patina at the muzzle.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
