A kit of the main battle tank Leopard 2 A7V in the unusually large 1:16 scale. In this scale the finished model has respectable dimensions and reveals even the details that are on the edge of visibility in the usual 1:35: the texture of the add-on armor modules, the attachment of the tools, the radiator grilles or the shaping of the tracks. Das Werk is a German model brand which has long focused on German equipment and on less usual subjects. The exact composition of the package, the number of parts and the extent of the decal schemes are not stated here.
The Leopard 2 A7V is the current level of modernization of the Leopard 2 tank in the German army. It is based on older hulls of the Leopard 2 series which went through an adaptation to a common standard: they were given strengthened ballistic protection including add-on modules at the front and on the sides, modified electronics and a modernized main weapon in 120 mm caliber with a lengthened barrel. From the outside the A7V is recognized by the angular armor blocks on the turret, the modified set of observation and sighting instruments and the details of the attachment of the gear on the hull. It is precisely these items that make the A7V a rewarding real subject for a large scale.
With a model of this size it pays off to proceed in subassemblies. Finish and paint the running gear, the wheels and the tracks before you close the hull up, otherwise they are hard to reach later. The large flat surfaces of the hull and the turret need careful filling and sanding, because in 1:16 scale every irregularity shows. Before painting, apply a quality primer, which unifies the surface and improves adhesion. The standard German three-color camouflage sprays well with an airbrush with soft transitions; the large area at the same time gives room for modulating the shades. For the patina use darker washes into the hollows and the engraved lines, a dry brush on the edges and pigments for dust and mud around the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
