A mixed Sd.Kfz. 234 wheel set with a spare in 1:16 scale brings several tread patterns together on one vehicle, as used to be common in the field.
Responsibility details are not available.
A mixed version of the tires for a large model of the German-built reconnaissance eight-wheeler. The name itself describes the make-up as nine plus one, that is, a set of wheels complemented by the spare, and the word mix suggests that the tread is not the same on all of them. Their contact patch is leveled flat to the base, which matches a standing vehicle. Mixed tires are exactly the kind of detail that takes the flawless factory look away from a model and adds credibility to it.
The best known member of the family was the 234/2 version nicknamed Puma. Unlike the others it carried a fully enclosed cast turret with a long 50 mm gun, originally developed for a reconnaissance tank project that was dropped. The Puma looked menacing and could threaten even lighter armored vehicles, but only a few dozen were built and in the field it was a rarity. The Allies could meet it mainly in Normandy and later in the Ruhr.
When fitting the mixed pattern, leave the wheels with a different design next to each other on one side rather than symmetrically; a random arrangement looks more natural. Vary the shades of the rubber slightly, so that each wheel carries a different degree of fading.
The item replaces part of a kit, and the rest of the vehicle has to come from elsewhere.
