This is an accessory for a kit, not a model of an aircraft. The set contains machine-cut self-adhesive templates with which the national crosses are sprayed straight onto the airframe instead of using decals. The difference shows mainly at the large 1:32 scale: sprayed markings have no glossy carrier film, do not silver and make no step on the surface, so they look like part of the paintwork. At the same time there is no risk of a decal cracking across engraved panel lines or over rivets. The mask is cut for the Hasegawa kit.
For the same machine a separate mask for the other markings is also issued: these are two different sets, not variants of one.
The Junkers Ju 87 D-8 was one of the late variants of the Ju 87 dive bomber, adapted for night operations. It differed from the day versions mainly in its equipment and in modifications to the exhausts that suppressed the dazzling of the crew. For a model that means dark finishes, on which the crisp edges of sprayed markings stand out.
Stick the mask onto a perfectly dry base coat, ideally over a thin layer of gloss varnish, which seals the surface and prevents seepage. Press the template down with a toothpick, especially in sharp corners, and spray the paint perpendicularly and in several light coats; when sprayed at a slant, the paint runs under the edge. It pays to spray over the edge of the mask with the color of the base first, so that any seepage does not show on the color of the markings. Lift the mask off with tweezers in a slanting pull while the paint has only just set. Cover the surroundings of a larger design with paper or tape, so that overspray does not reach the finished paintwork.
The set contains masking templates only. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
