About product

Masking set for the canopy 1:72 Fokker S.11 Instructor and Aermacchi M.416

These are airbrush masks for the canopy glazing of a model of the Fokker S.11 Instructor trainer, or rather its Italian-built counterpart the Aermacchi M.416, in 1:72 scale. It is not a kit or a spare part but an aid for painting: the masks are supplied pre-cut and self-adhesive, so there is no need to struggle with tracing the frames onto masking tape and cutting with a scalpel directly on the part. Check the exact extent of the set on the packaging.

The target kit is Kovozavody Prostejov (KVP); that is bought separately.

The real subject

The Fokker S.11 Instructor is a propeller-driven trainer with fixed landing gear which was created in the Netherlands shortly after the Second World War and served for the basic training of pilots. Besides domestic production it was also built under license abroad, in Italy under the designation Aermacchi M.416. Thanks to its simple shapes and large glazed cockpit it is a rewarding model, but it is precisely the glazing that is seen the most on it, so cleanly sprayed frames pay off.

How to work with the masks

First wash the clear part and let it dry out completely, as grease from fingers is the most common cause of paint seeping. Lift the masks off the backing with tweezers, lay them on the part and press them down all the way around. Then spray in thin coats, ideally with the interior color first and only then the outer shade, so that the frame looks right from the inside as well. Remove the mask shortly after the paint has dried, in a pull at a sharp angle. Finally polish the glazing and protect it from sanding dust.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of trainers and sport aircraft in 1:72 scale.
  • Modelers who want a crisp transition between the frame and the glass.
  • Those who do not want to lose time cutting masks from tape.
  • Beginners, for whom masking a canopy is the greatest difficulty.

It is an accessory for painting. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

A masking set for the canopy glazing. The kit, paints and glue are not part of it; check the exact extent of the set on the packaging.

The Aermacchi M.416 is the Italian licensed counterpart of the Dutch Fokker S.11 Instructor. The shape of the canopy is identical on both machines, so the masks cover both names.

Degrease the clear part, press the mask down all the way around and spray in several thin coats instead of one heavy one.

Yes, for a beginner above all. Masking a canopy tends to be the first really difficult step, and a pre-cut mask does it for you.

For the Kovozavody Prostejov (KVP) kit. That is bought separately.
