A resin accessory set in 1:35 scale from the brand ELEFANT. It is not a model of the tank but a replacement part with which you replace the armored exhaust covers from the original kit on the rear of the hull. According to the name the set is cut for Border Model kits and the material is enough for two vehicles. This version carries a raised casting number on the surface, that is, the factory mark that the real covers bore. The covers are intended for Tiger I tanks across the production stages from the initial through the early and mid to the late ones.
The hull rear is among the most closely watched places on the Tiger I, because it is on show and full of detail. Injection-molded plastic runs up against its limits here: the walls of the covers come out thicker than they really were, and fine surface relief is lost in the mold. A resin casting solves that problem, because it captures thinner edges and sharper surface detail. A casting number, moreover, is a detail that differed from vehicle to vehicle, and modelers use it to tune a model to a period photograph of a particular machine. That is exactly why the brand issues the same version without a number as well.
Cut the original plastic covers away carefully and level the surface on the rear by sanding, so that the new part sits without a gap. First wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water because of the mold release agent from the mold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, not with nippers. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, that is, with super glue. Apply a base coat before painting, so that the shade holds on the smooth resin. The exhausts tend to be the place with the heaviest patina, so after the main coat give them shades of rust, soot and dust. You bring out a raised number with a thin wash that runs into its edges.
This is an accessory set, not a model of the tank. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
