On the Tiger I the pair of cylindrical exhaust mufflers on the rear plate of the hull is among the items always in view on a finished model, because they dominate the rear and nothing can cover them. The part from a kit tends to be split, and once glued it keeps a lengthwise seam exactly where the eye looks for it. The replacement part comes in one piece, so you do not have to deal with a seam and the surface stays untouched even after the surroundings are sanded.
The name ties it to the HL 230 engine, that is, to the late production guise of the Tiger I, and to kits from the manufacturer Dragon. The contents are enough for two models, which comes in useful if you are building a pair of machines for one display case or want to keep a spare. With other kits of the same tank, compare the diameter and the spacing of the mounting dry before you start cutting anything away.
Cut the original mufflers from the kit away and level the surface of the rear plate, so that the new part sits on its whole base. Cut the surplus material on the replacement part away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand the remainder back carefully, so as not to reach the surface. Wash and degrease the parts before gluing. Choose the glue according to the material: cyanoacrylate glue holds on parts that are not made of polystyrene, while ordinary modeling cement for plastic suits polystyrene. A base coat evens the surface out and improves the adhesion of the further layers. It pays to paint the exhausts separately and to fit them to the model only at the end.
The tank kit, the paints and the glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
