1:35 MG 42 Late Version (Pair) is a pair of resin models of the German MG 42 machine gun in its late production form, in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer GasPatch Models.
Responsibility details are not available.
According to the name, the set contains two pieces of the weapon in 1:35 scale in its late production form. It is not a model of a vehicle or a figure but separate castings meant for a diorama, a vehicle mount or a figure of the crew. The manufacturer makes the early form of the same weapon as a separate item, so you can choose the variant to suit the period you are building.
The MG 42 was a German machine gun of 7.92 mm caliber introduced during the Second World War, used with a bipod as well as on a tripod and on vehicle mounts. Production ran at several plants, and in the course of it the weapon was simplified and modified. The changes showed mainly around the muzzle, on the barrel jacket and on small fittings, and those are what the early and late forms are told apart by today. For the modeler that has a practical effect: a vehicle or a scene from a later period calls for the late version.
The castings are small, so have tweezers, a new blade and a light working surface ready. Wash the set in warm soapy water first, so that the paint will hold on the resin. Cut the casting block off with a fine saw and true the pad up with a file. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) applied in the tiniest drops on a wire. Start the painting with a dark base, suggest the metal edges over it with a dry brush, and underline the perforated barrel jacket with a dark wash that runs into the holes. Fit the weapon only once the vehicle or the figure has been painted, so that it does not get damaged during handling.
The set is an accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right. It is supplied unpainted, and glue and paints are not included in the package.
