About product

The U-STAR Aging Enamel Powder Brown pigment

A loose pigment colorant from the Aging Enamel Powder range of the U-STAR brand. The powder is applied to a finished model and is worked with differently from paint: it does not cover a surface but settles on it. The name of the shade is part of the name of the product. Check the volume, the composition and further processing on the box.

How to take the excess off

The great advantage of a pigment over paint is that it can be taken away. As long as the powder is only lying on a surface, you have several ways of moderating the result or canceling it altogether. The gentlest is a wide soft brush, with which you pass over the surface dry; the powder spreads out and fades and the lightest places are revealed. More vigorous is a cotton bud, with which you take the excess off a particular place deliberately. A pigment can be washed off completely with water or a damp cloth, but count on everything you have applied up to that moment going with it.

So always work from weaker to stronger and keep turning the model toward the light. A pigment looks different under direct lighting and different in a reflection, and what seemed discreet under a lamp may be too much in daylight. The most common mistake is not a wrong shade but too much material applied.

Use

  • weathering finished models of vehicles, aircraft, ships and dioramas
  • the excess can be wiped off with a dry brush or a cotton bud, or washed off completely with water
  • keep checking the result under different lighting
  • applied dry and in small doses, best on a matte surface

Who the pigment is for

For modelers afraid of spoiling a finished model with weathering. With pigments in particular the risk is small, because as long as an application is not fixed, the step can be taken back and begun again. It is therefore a suitable material both for first attempts and for refining work already done.

A loose powder: do not inhale it, work out of a draft and over a surface, and wash your hands after work. Keep out of the reach of children.

FAQ

Pass over the surface with a wide dry brush and the excess will spread out. A particular place can be cleaned with a cotton bud, and everything washed off with water or a damp cloth.

Careful wiping with a damp cloth will not harm dry, well-cured modeling paint. Try it first, though, on an offcut of sprue painted the same way.

A pigment changes markedly with the lighting. Turn the model toward the light as you work and judge it away from the lamp as well, or you will easily apply more than will look good in daylight.
