TERRAFORM Stone Grey Thin - a fine scatter material

A loose scatter material from the TERRAFORM range of the Spanish brand AMMO of Mig Jimenez. It is not a model and not a finished scenic object but a material you pour onto a diorama, a display base or a wargaming base and fix in place yourself. It is used to build the texture of the ground: rubble, gravel areas, roadsides and ruins around vehicles or figures. The Stone Grey version is aimed at stony rubble, gravel and unpaved roads.

The Thin designation marks the finest grade within the range. A fine scatter suits areas that should read as smooth and distant: beaten tracks, dusty surfaces and the transitions between the terrain and the edge of a base. In smaller scales it also does the job that a coarser grade does in larger ones.

Use

• Shape the terrain from a base compound first and let it cure; the scatter goes onto the finished shape.
• Spread the material in a thin layer and only then fix it, usually with thinned PVA glue with a drop of detergent, dropped on with a pipette over a moistened surface.
• Layer the grades from fine to coarse; a single grain size over the whole area gives a finished scene away.
• Even the shade out only once it is dry, with washes, filters and pigments rather than by coloring the scatter in a dish.
• Set the vegetation, the grass and the model itself in place at the very end, so that the scatter does not get clogged.

Who the material is for

For builders of dioramas and display scenes in any scale, for wargamers who build their own bases and gaming terrain, and for railway modelers as well. Working with scatter calls for no experience of resin or photo-etched parts, so it is a rewarding start if you are only now getting ready to build scenery.
