A continuous sheet with a marble pattern in pink with golden veining. It is used as a backing under a model, a bust or a scene, either permanently in a display case or temporarily as a surface for photographing finished work.
You will get the most out of it when photographing. The golden veins only come alive when soft side light falls on the surface; under harsh light from above the figuring is lost and the surface looks uniform. At the same time a warm reflection appears under the model, and that needs watching: with coolly painted vehicles it can be distracting, while with brass and bronze detail it helps.
Caring for a surface on display. Dust shows on a light pattern sooner than on a matte gray board, so allow for that when planning a display case. Brush it away with a soft brush or a blower bulb, not with a cloth pressed hard, so that fine scratches do not appear on the surface.
For modelers who photograph their work or exhibit it on a presentable backing, and for bust collectors looking for a more ceremonial surface than a gray board. Look for the size of the sheet, its thickness and the material on the box.
