A board with a color motif of a racing team's working area, intended as a base under a finished model of a single-seater. It is not a model or a diorama set to be assembled. The motif is drawn for 1:20 scale, which is the most widespread among Formula kits.

What the scene shows

The garage in the paddock is where a car spends most of its time between runs. A smooth floor with service markings and the colored areas of the working space give a model a context that a shelf on its own cannot offer. On such a surface a single-seater looks as if it were ready to roll out rather than a motionless exhibit behind glass.

What to keep in mind

The difference between the Type 1 and Type 2 variants lies in the rendering of the motif, so the choice is a matter of taste and of the colors of your car. Before display it is enough to wipe the surface with a soft cloth so that no fingerprints are left on the artwork. Since it is mainly the floor that shows under a single-seater, it pays to seat the model so that all four wheels sit evenly. If you are building the car with the engine exposed or with the bodywork removed, the garage motif gives the whole composition a logic that a neutral base would never give.
