A wooden deck for a large model of the British battleship HMS Nelson in the 1944 version, 1:200 scale. Intended for the Trumpeter 03708 kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from Artwox Model complements a sizeable model of the British battleship Nelson. Planking engraved in plastic gives way to a surface with real wood grain, which on this ship with its unusually extensive forward deck shows at first glance. The year given in the name refers to the late wartime form of the vessel. The target kit is Trumpeter 03708.
The Nelson came about as an answer to the tonnage ceilings of the Washington treaty. To stay within the permitted displacement the designers concentrated nine 406 mm barrels into three turrets and placed them all ahead of the superstructure. The ship was commissioned in 1927, in June 1944 she supported the landings in Normandy and her shells fell deep beyond the coastal belt. She finished the war in the Far East, where in September 1945 she received the surrender of the Japanese forces at Penang.
Assemble the extensive bow deliberately: first lay the pieces out dry, check the gaps between them and only then seat them. Level the edges at the bulwarks against the plastic molding, not by eye. The shade of the surface can be softened with a thin glaze, and the gaps between the planks can be brought out with a dark shade applied by capillary action.
