A set of masks for a model, not a kit. Masks for military equipment do two jobs during painting: they keep clean the surfaces where paint does not belong, that is, the vision blocks, the windows and the lenses of the optics, the lights and the searchlights, and on multicolor schemes they run the boundary between shades so that it comes out sharp and the same on both sides of the vehicle. On German equipment with three-color camouflage that tells doubly, because the transitions make up a prominent part of the overall impression. The target kit is Takom.
The Gepard is a German self-propelled anti-aircraft gun built on the chassis of the Leopard 1 tank. The abbreviation SPAAG denotes exactly this category of equipment: a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun system. In a large rotating turret it carries a pair of 35 mm automatic cannons at the sides and radars for both searching and tracking a target, with the search antenna folding down on the move. The A1 and A2 forms match later upgrade standards. The large turret with its radars, the barrel coolers and a great deal of small optics make the Gepard a demanding but striking piece to model.
Stick the masks onto a dried primer coat, before the scheme is painted. The surface has to be clean and free of dust. Lift the piece off with pointed tweezers, seat it and press the edges down thoroughly with a toothpick; paint always creeps under where the edge has not seated. Spray at a right angle and in thin coats. Take them off while the paint is only tacky, as the lip tears on a hard coat. With multicolor camouflage work from the lightest shade to the darkest.
