An accessory for a built model, not a kit. This self-adhesive film with a holographic effect is meant for the optics of the Chinese ZTZ-99A main battle tank: for the vision ports, the sight windows and the lenses of the lights. Once applied, a part stops behaving like painted plastic and begins to change shade and reflect light according to the viewing angle. It is exactly this restless shine that tells real optics from a painted imitation in a photograph, and it is one of the few upgrades a beginner can manage in a few minutes. The set is designed for the Panda kit.
The ZTZ-99A is a third-generation main battle tank of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. Compared with the earlier form it has a thoroughly reworked welded turret with modular armor and a wedge-shaped front, a more powerful powerpack and an upgraded fire control system. The main armament is a 125 mm smoothbore gun with an autoloader. On the model the turret is densely covered with optics, vision ports and lighting, so it shows well whether the modeler has taken trouble over the glass.
The film goes on as the very last step, onto a painted, clear-coated and weathered model. First remove the dust from the surface and degrease it. Lift the part off with pointed tweezers or a moistened toothpick, seat it in place and press it down with a soft tool from the center outward so that no bubble is left underneath. The film is not painted or clear-coated; mask it off during the final matting, otherwise the glint is lost.
