A pre-cut self-adhesive mask from Art Scale for a model of the American Grumman AF-2 Guardian carrier aircraft in 1:48 scale. According to the name the set is single-sided and it is cut to measure for the Special Hobby kit, so the parts match the shape of the frames of that model.
A single-sided version masks the glazing from the outside. The frames therefore get their color on the outside and stay in the shade of the clear plastic on the inside. It is the quicker and simpler variant, which suits models with a closed canopy or cases where the inside of the glazing will not be seen anyway. Double-sided sets also hold parts for the inner side, thanks to which the frame is in the right color even when seen through the glass, and they take more time. So if you plan to leave the canopy open and have a painted interior in it, consider the double-sided variant; otherwise the single-sided one is amply enough.
Before masking, wash the clear part in lukewarm water with dish soap and let it dry in the open. Lift the parts off the sheet with the tip of a knife, move them with tweezers and let them seat dry before you press them down with a toothpick around the perimeter. Apply the paint perpendicular to the surface and in thin coats. The frames are usually sprayed twice, first in the interior shade and then in the outer camouflage. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, at a shallow angle backward.
