A plastic figure from the series devoted to the Greco-Persian Wars, in 1:32 scale, the usual size for collectible historical figures and a popular one for its good balance between size and the demands of painting. The package is not a vehicle kit and not a diorama; it is a figure to be assembled and painted. Within the same series the individual sets follow on from one another and can be built as the opposing sides of a single engagement.
The takabara were the light infantry of the Persian army, named after the shield called the taka. It was a light shield of wicker covered with leather, markedly smaller and more maneuverable than the heavy Greek hoplite shield. Soldiers of this kind relied on mobility, missile weapons and fighting at shorter range rather than on a close formation and the pressure of a shield wall. They wore cloth and leather dress instead of metal armor, which shows on the figure in the soft folds of the clothing and in the trousers that the Greek infantry did not know. It is precisely the contrast between a light infantryman and a hoplite that is the main reason figures from this series are bought in pairs.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. First clean up the mold seams carefully; on a historical figure they show most on the legs and along the edge of the shield. Apply a thin primer before painting. Build the skin from a darker tone toward a lighter one, while the textiles will on the contrary take marked shading, because the dress of this infantry is cloth and heavily folded. The shield is best painted separately from the body and attached only at the end, otherwise you will not reach the hands and the belt. Paint the patterns on the clothing sparingly, as small geometry works better in this scale than dense ornament.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
