A self-adhesive masking set from the manufacturer Art Scale for a model of the de Havilland Mosquito in the B Mk.IX and B Mk.XVI versions in 1:32 scale. It is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The masks are stuck directly onto the clear part and follow the shape of the frames, so the tedious cutting of masking tape with a knife and the risk of cutting into the glazing fall away.
What the double-sided version means
The double-sided variant allows for masking from the outer as well as the inner side of the glazing. The cockpit frames can thus be sprayed from the inside with an interior shade and from the outside with the camouflage scheme of the airframe. In the large 1:32 scale the inside of the cockpit is clearly visible, so the difference shows on a finished model. The one-sided variant of the same set masks only from the outside.
The Mosquito was a British twin-engine aircraft of largely wooden construction, powered by a pair of Rolls-Royce Merlin engines. The Mk.IX and Mk.XVI bomber versions were among the high-altitude machines of the later part of the war, and the Mk.XVI was built with a pressurized cockpit. The glazed nose and the broken-up cockpit frames are among the most laborious places to mask on the model.
Degrease the clear part before sticking the masks on and let it dry thoroughly. Press each mask down with a toothpick all the way around, so that paint does not run under the edge. Spray thin coats, first the interior shade, then the base coat and only then the upper colors. Take the masks off shortly after they have dried, while the edge of the paint is still thin and comes away cleanly.
The masking set is an accessory for a model, and the model itself and paints are not included in the package.
