An injection-molded plastic kit of the American P-47B Thunderbolt fighter in 1:48 scale from the Ukrainian maker Dora Wings. It is a model of the early production version, that is, of the machine with the dorsal spine on the fuselage and glazing behind the cockpit, as the first Thunderbolts delivered into service looked. Dora Wings has long devoted itself to subjects other makers pass over, and its molds are among the more finely engraved in this field.
The P-47B was the first version of the Thunderbolt put into production. It was powered by an air-cooled Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine supplemented by a turbocharger, which was housed at the rear of the fuselage and connected to the engine by long ducting, and it was exactly this arrangement that gave the aircraft its characteristic bulky fuselage. The armament consisted of 12.7 mm machine guns in the wings. The aircraft was exceptionally heavy by the standards of the day, but it excelled in a fast dive and in the toughness of its structure. The first machines reached units in 1942 and served at first above all for training and for familiarizing pilots with the new type.
Glue the model with a thin cement for plastic, which is drawn into the joint by wicking and leaves no excess. Always dry-fit the parts first. Finish and paint the cockpit and the landing gear bays before you close the fuselage. Use a primer before spraying, because the joints and sanded transitions are then easier to watch on the large smooth areas of the fuselage. Bring out the panel lines only after the gloss clear coat, under the decals.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
