A turned metal barrel for the M113 MRV in 1:35 scale from AFV Club replaces the plastic part from the kit of the Australian reconnaissance vehicle with a precisely machined metal barrel.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item is an accessory to a kit, not a model of a vehicle. The turned metal barrel is used in place of the plastic part from the kit. The benefit shows at once: a plastic barrel has a lengthwise mold parting line whose sanding down costs time and usually takes the surrounding detail with it, and it tends to be slightly bent. The metal part is straight, carries its own weight and has the muzzle turned out, so even drilling falls away.
The M113 MRV was an Australian reconnaissance vehicle built on the chassis of the M113A1 armored personnel carrier. The turret of the British Saladin armored car with a 76 mm gun was mounted on the hull of the carrier, which produced a tracked vehicle with fire support for reconnaissance units. The combination of an American hull and a British turret makes the MRV a rewarding and unmistakable subject which also comes into its own among models of ordinary M113 carriers. A matching kit in 1:35 scale is made, so the barrel has a build to serve.
Degrease the metal part with alcohol, or neither primer nor paint will hold on it. Try the seating in the turret dry and glue the barrel with cyanoacrylate or with two-part epoxy, which gives more time to align the axis. It is worth painting over a primer for metal; use a darker shade at the muzzle and then apply fine dust on the model in the shade of the surrounding terrain, because Australian vehicles operated mostly in dusty surroundings.
