1:35 Vickers machine gun of the First World War is a detail accessory from the Czech maker Special Hobby. It replaces a coarser plastic part from a kit or adds a period-correct weapon to figures and a diorama.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from the Czech maker Special Hobby is not a vehicle kit but a separate detail accessory in 1:35 scale. Modelers use it in two ways: either to replace the simplified plastic machine gun from the basic kit, or to build it as a stand-alone element for vignettes and dioramas with infantry. The maker also offers the same machine gun in a Second World War form; this item is the First World War version, which with the Vickers is a substantial difference in the details.
The Vickers was a British heavy machine gun of .303 caliber with a water-cooled barrel housed in a characteristic cylindrical jacket, from which a hose led to a separate water container. It fired from a belt and was mounted on a heavy tripod, which made it a weapon of the position rather than of movement. In trench warfare it was used for sustained fire and became one of the most typical features of British positions. It served the British Army throughout the First World War and long afterwards.
Dry fit the parts first and glue them only afterwards; with fine accessories it pays to work slowly rather than firmly. Use super glue, because ordinary plastic cement does not hold on other materials. Spray the whole with primer before painting. The cooling jacket is rewarding in dark metal with a light graphite sheen, while the wooden and canvas elements should be played out in warmer shades so that the weapon does not look all of one piece. A thin wash in the gaps between the jacket and the frame adds depth.
