The American M1 helmet with a camouflage cover in 1:72 scale is a small accessory for figures and dioramas, not a kit. It gives figures of American infantry the typical silhouette of a field helmet with a cloth cover.
Responsibility details are not available.
A stand-alone modeling accessory for figures and dioramas in 1:72 scale. It can be used to fit a figure in place of its original head covering or as a piece of equipment set aside in a scene, that is on a crate, on a pile of kit or beside a sleeping soldier. Check the number of pieces in the package and the exact material of the casting on the box.
The M1 helmet was introduced with the armed forces of the United States in 1941 and stayed in service for decades. It consisted of two parts, an outer steel shell and a removable inner liner with straps, which meant the liner could also be worn on its own. The cloth camouflage cover was pulled over the shell and had slits cut into it, into which soldiers pushed branches and grass; besides the cover, a net and a rubber band cut from an inner tube were also commonly used. Covers were worn above all by the Marine Corps in the Pacific and from 1944 also by units in Europe, so the accessory suits a wide range of scenes.
The part is tiny in this scale, so work with tweezers, a sharp scalpel and over a light surface. Degrease the surface before painting and lay on only a very thin base, so that the relief of the cover is not drowned. Choose an olive green base tone and suggest the camouflage patches with a fine brush, more as a hint than as exact drawing, because in 1:72 the pattern merges when seen from a distance. Pick the hollows out with a thin wash and run a lighter shade lightly along the edge of the shell. It is bonded with super glue applied on a toothpick.
