About product

Pontiac GTO of the 1969 model year in 1:24 scale from Monogram

The kit from the Monogram brand captures the Pontiac GTO of the 1969 model year - one of the icons of the American muscle car era. It is an injection-molded plastic kit in 1:24 scale, in which Monogram traditionally releases its automobile models, so the model will fit well in a display case next to other American cars of the same scale. The kit is intended for gluing, filling and painting, that is, for classic modeling work on a body.

The real subject

In 1969 the Pontiac GTO stood in the middle of its second generation, introduced for the 1968 model year. A characteristic element was the Endura front end of a flexible material, which was painted in the same shade as the body and took the place of the classic chrome bumper. The car was sold as a two-door coupe without a B-pillar and as a convertible, it was powered by large-displacement V8 engines, and the equipment included items such as a hood-mounted horn or sport wheels. The GTO is considered one of the founders of the whole muscle car category - the recipe was to get the biggest possible engine into the lightest possible mid-size body.

Building and painting tips

First rid the body of the mold seams and sand it over, then apply filler primer. Glossy American shades come out best sprayed in several thin coats and finished with a clear coat. Complete the engine and the chassis separately before you close the body up - on American kits the engine bay tends to be clearly visible. Leave the chrome parts to the end and handle them in gloves, so that the surface finish is not damaged. Apply the decals onto a perfectly glossy base.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of American muscle cars of the 1960s and 1970s
  • Modelers who are building a display case in a uniform 1:24 scale
  • Those interested in classic kits with a well worked out engine and chassis
  • Lovers of glossy paintwork and polished bodies

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The 1969 model year, that is, the second generation of the GTO, which was produced from the 1968 model year. The identifying mark is the flexible Endura front end painted in the same shade as the body.

American kits in 1:24 usually do contain an engine. Please verify the breakdown of the parts on the packaging.

For the body we recommend a glossy automotive paint applied with an airbrush and fixed with a clear coat. The interior and the chassis come out well in flat and semi-gloss shades.

Yes. It is a classic glued plastic kit, so you need a thin cement for polystyrene, and possibly filler and sandpaper.
