The model captures the three-door Corolla Levin in racing trim with ADVAN markings. The subject is the generation the whole world knows by the AE86 code, the one that turned an ordinary compact into one of the most respected Japanese rear-wheel-drive cars of all. The racing colors make it a striking piece for the display case.
The Levin was one of two body forms of the same car; the sister Sprinter Trueno differed from it mainly in the treatment of the front headlights. A light body, rear-wheel drive and a high-revving four-cylinder engine made it a favorite choice for circuit and hill climb racing, and in the 1980s it was a regular entrant in the Japanese touring car series. The ADVAN name belongs to a sporting tire brand whose blue and red color scheme became instantly recognizable in Japanese motorsport. It is in this combination that the car stayed in the memory of the fans.
A racing scheme calls for thorough surface preparation, because decals with colored stripes give away every flaw on an uneven surface. A white base coat under the bright markings helps keep the shades saturated. The decals go onto gloss paint and are sealed with a top coat so that their edges disappear. Finish the wheels, the brakes and the detail in the wheel arches separately, because on racing cars they draw the eye first.
