A model standing on a bare table or on a shelf looks as if it were floating. A display board gives it a surface for the car to drive on, and gives a photograph the connection between the car and the ground. The motif of an asphalt road is carried under the designation 24 Hours of Le Mans, variant TYPE 1, and suits racing as well as road cars.
The board is of acrylic 3 mm thick and measures 180 x 357 mm, that is 18 x 35.7 cm. In 1:24 scale that corresponds to roughly 4.3 x 8.6 meters of real road, so a car model will fit on it with a strip of surface around it. Unlike a paper base, a solid board does not bend and does not ripple, which helps both when photographing and when carrying a finished scene.
Wipe the board with a soft dry cloth before photographing; acrylic scratches easily, so avoid rough cloths and abrasive cleaning agents. Do not stand containers of thinner on it and do not lay cloths soaked in solvent on it, because those dull the surface and can create fine cracks in it. When photographing, watch the reflections: a point light will bounce off a smooth surface, whereas soft diffused light from the side renders the texture of the road better.
The board takes up little more space in a display case than the model itself and suits collectors of finished models as well as modelers who photograph their work and want a consistent background under the car. It also comes into its own as a neutral surface under a part-built model while working at the table. A car model is not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
