Cut self-adhesive masks for the cockpit glazing of the large Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 in 1:24 scale. The package covers the canopy from the outside and the inside and adds three masks for the national insignia.
Responsibility details are not available.
The E-3 version belongs to the family nicknamed Emil and it is the form of the Messerschmitt that most modelers associate with the fighting over France and southern England. The power came from an inverted Daimler-Benz twelve-cylinder with direct fuel injection, thanks to which the engine did not cut out under negative g. The angular cockpit canopy has a dense framework of straight bars, and it is exactly this property that makes painting the frames by hand a wearing job lasting several evenings.
The glazing is painted in the same order as the whole airframe: first the shade that lies underneath on the model. On this aircraft that means laying the light lower tone over the whole framed canopy, letting it go off and only then moving to the upper camouflage shade. If the order were reversed, the dark layer would show through the light one and the frames on the underside of the cockpit would come out murky. Leave at least an hour between the two coats, and with synthetic paints rather a whole day.
In the set there are two parts for the cockpit glazing, one for the outer and one for the inner side, and with them three masks for the national insignia. The masks are cut into self-adhesive film and are lifted from the carrier sheet with tweezers. The package holds neither decals nor plastic parts.
