Shapes for spraying the cockpit of the Messerschmitt Bf 109E-4 in 1:24. The angular superstructure is covered from the outside and the inside, and three parts for the markings are enclosed.
Responsibility details are not available.
The E-4 version came about from the previous form by exchanging the wing armament for modified cannons without the trouble of jamming and above all by rebuilding the cockpit. The sliding section received a different arrangement of surfaces, an armor plate protecting the head was added at the back and the front pane changed into thick bulletproof glass in a separate frame. Machines in this form carried the main weight of the fighting over southern England in the autumn of 1940.
That rebuilding matters to a builder, because it shifted the position and the width of several frames. A stencil cut for the older form will therefore not fit and the difference is perceptible at first glance in a large reduction. The armor plate behind the head moreover takes away the room through which the cockpit could be reached, so the inner side is masked before the whole part is assembled. Anyone who leaves that step for later usually ends up patiently adding small strips with tweezers.
The contents are leaner than they tend to be in the sets for British machines. Beside a pair of shapes for the glazing, three parts for the national insignia are enclosed, which matches the simpler form of German markings.
The crosses on the fuselage and the wing of this type have a narrow light outline. Spray a light base over the whole area of the cross first, let it dry and only then mask the outline and fill in the dark center. The reverse order leads to the dark color showing through the light layer and the outline looking dirty.
